On August 26, Matthias was invited to be on the jury panel to judge the final round of the Altamira Guitar Competition in Shanghai.

Apart from him, there were guitar professors from the Central Conservatory in Beijing, Tianjin Conservatory, and Xinghai Conservatory in Guangzhou, as well as two international guest artists among the judges.
